  • Folklore and mysticism from around the world attribute a common quality to the Elder Tree: protection. In different cultures, the Elder Tree has been said to shield against evil spirits, lightning, and even the ravages of aging. The notion of the Elder Tree as a guardian may stem from its widespread use in folk medicine. The Elder’s berries, little black pearls packed with antioxidants and vitamin C, can be crushed into syrups and teas that are said to boost immunity, tame inflammation and reduce stress.
  • Elderberry features the Elder tree’s clouds of blossoms and clusters of berries. The design’s layout and motifs were inspired by the early twentieth century book jackets of a German publisher called Insel Bücherei. Small in scale, the book covers are a treasure trove of Arts and Crafts style botanical patterns.

About the Designer

Mazy Path

Mazy Path is Alexis Audette, a RISD alum who was raised by a family of printmakers, painting conservators and art historians. While plants and passion for linocuts and relief prints inspire the design and artistry of its wallcoverings, Mazy Path is also influenced from early modernist art & design such as compositions of Arthur Wesley Dow, the color of Josef Frank, and the craftsmanship of Gustave Baumann.
